Check Local Zoning Ordinances
Do you have a brick-and-mortar store? You will need to check with the local Code Enforcement Officer (CEO), Brian Stetson, to determine if your business will be in compliance with local zoning ordinances. For example, if you want to put up signs or advertising devise of any kind, you must obtain a sign permit from the CEO. Signs in the city center district have their own regulations. For example, signs like sandwich boards placed in the public right-of-way require a annual permit and proof of liability insurance. Appointments with Brian are scheduled through the Office Coordinator/E-911 Addressing Officer.
Business owners can put up “Official Business Directional Signs” with a permit from the Maine Department of Transportation. These signs are permitted at various locations to help highway motorists easily navigate to your business.
