Michael is from Kansas City Missouri. He is married to Malory and together have four sons and five grandchildren. He moved to Maine in 1987 and has lived in multiple communities along the Presumpscot River. He is emeritus faculty at the University of Southern Maine where he still teaches drawing. As an artist he has shown nationally and is known for installations and sculptures primarily made of hay. He has a small vegan food product business. He is an at-large City Councilor of Westbrook. He is a founding member of the Friends of the Presumpscot River and currently serves as the President of the Board He is deeply involved in the river’s restoration. He is also on the board of the Portland Metro and it’s ridership committee. On the DDW board he is engaged in building the arts in Westbrook.
He and Malory reside in the historic Conant Homestead within a short walk to Saccarappa Falls and Downtown Westbrook.
They tend a small farm, host a summer concert series and encourage human connection along the banks of the River.
