Financial Capital / Funding – If you’re starting a business or seeking financing for an existing business, the state of Maine has numerous organizations and resources that can help match your financial needs.
Westbrook’s local banking community is strong, and we are developing programming to share financial knowledge, advising, and tools to help ensure your overall financial health. One of our objectives is to connect our local businesses with broader organizational and public sector funding opportunities.
Are you a local business owner with an idea for growth? Apply to be in our Paper City Pitch Contest and win up to $5000 in cash to help plant the seeds.
Expanding Access to Capital
You may need some help navigating the breadth of financial resources available in Maine, and the Finance Authority of Maine is the State’s business financing agency that can help. To start, their Business Roadmap outlines key steps in the business planning and financing process, along with the tools, resources, and partners that can help you along the way. They also provide low-cost capital to companies that might otherwise face obstacles to securing funding.
The Maine Department of Economic and Community Development manages several economic recovery grant programs using Federal relief funding. We work with GPCOG (Greater Portland Council of Governments) to help bring state and federal funding to Westbrook and specifically to support our local businesses through various grants and loan programs.

Some of Westbrook’s Local Banking Partners
Building strong, personal relationships with a local bank can benefit your business and help you meet your financial goals. Because local banks tend to take a holistic view of your finances, they can assist with both personal and business financial planning and can offer continuous support. Many also take a community-based approach and so can help you leverage community connections and provide tailored advice based on an understanding of local economic conditions.
