Bicycle Benefits are Coming to Town!
Do you like saving money at Westbrook’s local businesses? Do you have a bike (and helmet)? If so, you’ll want to take part in the new Bicycle Benefits program, which launches this summer. Keep reading to learn more about Bicycle Benefits and how it could change the way you get around Westbrook this summer!
What is Bicycle Benefits?
This program encourages people to bike instead of drive, and it encourages the support of local businesses. It works like this: you buy a $5 sticker and put it on your helmet. When you bike to one of many participating businesses, you’ll get a discount or a free item with your purchase. Your sticker will save you money on coffee, beer, burgers, donuts, and even clothing.
It’s a win-win for Westbrook: we get more people using a more eco-friendly form of transportation, and we help steer more people to our local businesses. Actually, it’s even better than that because you’ll be burning off extra calories, so go ahead and treat yourself to that extra cookie!
How Can I Participate?
Bicycle Benefits is a growing, nationwide program. So if you are feeling more adventurous, you can bike to Portland and SoPo and enjoy even more savings there. And if you make it to the West Coast and use your helmet sticker in Seattle, we definitely want to hear about it!
You can buy your helmet sticker from participating businesses or directly from DDW. We’ll also be selling them at Vallee Square summer concerts and other DDW events. For more information (including a complete list of participating businesses), check out our Bike Benefits page.
Get On Your Bikes and Ride!
To help kick off the bike benefits program, DDW is sponsoring an inaugural group ride on Sunday, June 11, at 3 p.m., departing from Westbrook Common. We’ll go for about 3 miles and stop at some of the BB participating businesses. It’s co-sponsored by Ernie’s cycle shop, which is offering a 10% discount for anyone with the helmet sticker. Why not let them get your ride road-worthy this season?
DDW is grateful to Dairy Queen for sponsoring the start-up of this project!
